Thailand youth team coach Issara Sritaro has lauded his players' performance in the AFC U23 Asian Cup in Qatar despite their first round exit from the tournament.

The team arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday as two straight losses to Saudi Arabia (5-0) and Tajikistan (1-0) in Group C ended their run in the tournament, which will see the three top teams qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Thailand had started their campaign in an impressive manner with their first ever victory over Iraq in an U23 tussle. The Thais won the match 2-0.

Issara said: "Every player did his best and most of them got the chance to play and gain experience.

"We did really well in the first game against Iraq but then had fitness issues and lost concentration towards the end of the second and third matches.

"Overall, I would say our players performed better than our expectations.

"Some of them are very talented, especially Erawan [Granier] and he is willing to serve the country in the future."

Issara added that he will soon be meeting with the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) officials to submit his report on the tournament.

"My job has ended with our exit from the Asian U23 event in Qatar and I am not sure about the FAT's plans for the future."
